I kind of geek out when the New Moon lands on a Monday. Duran Duran’s song gets in my head. It was part of my childhood as my little sister played DD constantly. And it was the early 80’s and MTV and videos were the mainstay of our afternoons.
The album was weird and the political undertones went right over the heads of the screaming 13 year old girls. And frankly, the politics were way beyond the psyche of of Duran Duran as well.
But what can you say. They mentioned lunar phases, and in my world now, that is pretty cool. And as some music critic explains it:
The title, “New Moon on Monday,” suggests a time of new beginnings and possibilities. The choice of Monday, traditionally associated with the start of the workweek, adds a sense of urgency and the need for change. Duran Duran conveys a message that change can happen in unexpected moments, even on a seemingly ordinary Monday.
