NOTE: This post was inspired by a “conversation” I had last night on Facebook. This discussion was started by someone (a TDS deranged American Leftist) about the plan by the Trump Administration through the DOEd recommend a renewed Civics educational initiative to engage students, educators, and communities in conversations about liberty, citizenship, and America’s enduring values.
The last 50 years have seen a dramatic shift in what is taught to the children of our country. And the shift has been intentional, and not in a good way. It has been a shift, engineered by the left, to fundamentally change the way the future citizens of our country think.
Back in the early 80’s, when I was in high school, we were seeing a shift in the curriculum. I remember, as a result of these changes, we had 4 years of American history and skipped World History entirely (who really needs to know about the Roman Empire and Genghis Kahn anyways).
For reading, we had a healthy list of Shakespeare, Steinbeck, Hemingway and Faulkner, winners like The Scarlet Letter, The Outsiders, A Separate Peace, Catcher in the Rye and To Kill a Mockingbird. But we also got political novels Like 1984, Animal Farm, Tale of Two Cities, The Jungle, Lord of the Flies, Catch 22. Atlas Shrugged and A Brave New World.
I was not much of a reader in High School. Part of that was the problems I had with my eyes. But I did not always connect with what I was reading. It wasn’t until after high school that I decided to read all the books that I dreaded in high school (and had the luck of the draw to miss). And I found, surprisingly to me, that I loved many of these books (I still say fuck the Shakespeare).
Among them, it was 1984 and A Brave New World that left me the most shaken. They both rocked my world, and that was despite all the science fiction and horror movies I had seen in the 70’s and 80’s. Both of them painted perfect dystopian pictures of what the world could be should society be driven in that direction.
I found this list in a meme today and wanted to share it. My own comments are in red.

Ten Lessons from the book 1984
- Truth can be manipulated – When those in power control information, they control reality itself. If history is rewritten, people can be made to forget what was once true. – DEI
- Language shapes thought – Orwell’s concept of Newspeak shows how limiting words can limit freedom. If people cannot name rebellion or justice, they may not be able to imagine them. Politically correct
- Surveillance destroys freedom – “Big Brother is watching you” warns us that constant monitoring strips away privacy, individuality and trust. – When was the last time the Facebook Factcheckers tagged your posts or suspended you for violating community standards? Do you know your credit score and all it means to your life? Ask the average citizen of China about Social Credit Scores and who is in control of your future
- Fear is a tool of control – The Party rules not through love and loyalty but through fear, punishment and terror, which keeps citizens obedient. – Lawfare. The branch of government that was supposed to be free of bias . . . is biased.
- Conformity can crush individuality – Winston and Julia’s attempt to love and think freely shows how hard it is to resist a system that demands total conformity.
- Propaganda replaces reality – Endless slogans (“War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength”) illustrate how repetition can make people accept contradictions. – Consider everything you see in the media when you know that the media is owned by 5 companies and they are al saying the same thing.
- Totalitarianism erases humanity – The Party’s ultimate goal is not just obedience but domination of the human mind – destroying even private loyalties and emotions.
- Freedom begins in thought – Winston’s rebellion starts with a simple idea: “Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two makes four.” Independent thought is the first step towards resistance. – Is it any wonder why they instituted Common Core 10 years ago? Based on the education system in China?
- Power seeks power for its own sake – As O’Brien tells Winston, the Party does not care about justice or progress; it wants power only to keep and expand power.
- Complacency is dangerous – Orwell’s warning is timeless: if people ignore abuses of power, they may gradually accept surveillance, censorship, and manipulation as “normal.”
1984 is not just a story about a grim future – it’s a mirror held up to society to keep us alert to the risks of unchecked power.
I started this discussion talking about changes to the civics curriculum. This process has been a response to the years of rewriting of history by the academic left. And by teaching the foundations of the philosophy that started this nation, our children will at least be able to have a starting place when these foundations are attacked

Was that always a lie? Was it always poison?
But the horror of life imagined in 1984 that has slowly creeped into our reality in the last 20 years may not have been just an intellectual attack. We have watched autism magically go from a condition seen in 1-10000 kids to 1-32 today. And the medical industry shrugs and tells you it is genetics and to shut up. In 9 short months with someone in power willing to question the authorities, now an honest and open investigation can be made.
The disclosure last week about autism was just the start. I think it shows that no leaf shall be left unturned. The most trusted of names can be questioned. Because something is causing Autism. Most likely more than one thing. And the people responsible for it will be exposed.
I read another comment yesterday that I thought should be shared from Badlands Media:
Tylenol doesn’t just dull pain – it has been linked in some studies to changes in risk perception and emotional processing. If those effects make populations more “compliant” or “less emotionally reactive,” then restricting or demonizing it could be about removing a subtle social tranquilizer. Is Tylenol the Soma of Brave New World? Is it being intentionally tapered?
Then again (again?), once the public (at large) swallows the idea that even Tylenol can be declared “dangerous” – and, therefore, start begging for daddy government solutions – government regulators are instantly in a position to reset the OTC pain-management market under their total control.
Pay attention. It is your life. Not theirs.
