The Reset Diet Game

Usually once a year (for about a month) I follow a strict reset diet. The rules are pretty simple. No Sugar. No Processed Food (most of which have sugar). Stay as close to nature as possible.

I do this for a number of reasons, which have evolved over time. I found it on Facebook about 10 years ago from a book by a friend of mine from High School (pictured here – available on Amazon). I wanted to try a cleansing diet and this fit the bill. My reasons:

  • Lose weight – my main goal this time. I need to shed 20 lbs in advance of knee surgery at the end of next month (I am down 14 so far).
  • Reduce joint inflammation – This I found was a happy side effect of the diet I discovered the first time I did it.
  • Healthy – Eating more healthy food helps you in so many ways.
  • Cleansing toxins – the specific goal is to eliminate toxic food we don’t realize we are eating. Additives like MSG.
  • Improve habits – we get into unhealthy habits over time (Too much junk, alcohol, ice cream, doritos, etc.). By eliminating these for a short period, you become more aware of them in the future.

Funny thing about diets. Ask yourself if you have ever had a conversation with your doctor about going on a diet. If so, what did they recommend?

Now adays, people seem to opt for GLP-1 diets (Wegovy, Ozempic, et al). Why? 1) It is easy. Follow it or you puke. 2) They can prescribe it and make money from it. And that is everything you need to know about them. It’s funnier that GLP-1’s were developed for Type-2 diabetics (you know, the people who ruin their pancreases from years of bad diets. And the strange side effect (after lowering their A1C levels) was a 20-50 lbs. of weight loss.

In the end, diets are about willpower. Do you have the will to follow a diet to achieve the end result. I do. Seeing the number of people who opt for drugs, I would guess that most of them do not.

You have to ask yourself a question about doctors. About why they do not strictly recommend following a diet. Is it lack of profit incentive? Is it that their “profession” cannot offer this as an option? Do they only exist as monopolists for the pharmaceutical industry?

I came across another list (mostly unrelated to diet) on facebook that further questions the advice you get from doctors. This one is near and dear to my heart as I worked in the clothing industry for about 10 years and know a lot about. It is information you will never see on TV, never read in a book and never hear from a doctor. Which, to me, tells so much about whether or not they (doctors) should be arbiters of my personal health.
