Last Tuesday, I did watch the debate . . . kind of. It was on the TV and I was at my computer doing other things. Like the mainstream news, it was like second-and smoke in the room.
My impressions:
- Harris was VERY WELL prepared and had prepared answers for everything.
- Trump was not well prepared.
- The moderators were 100% working for or with Harris.
During the 90 minute debacle, Harris for the first time I have ever heard, sounded credible as she spoke. Lied her ass off. But sounded credible. And no one was calling her on the lies.
So was I worried that this was going to user in another 4 years of malaise? Possibly, if no response was made.
And then I heard Kamala’s first SOLO interview since the debate (first solo interview since she kicked Joe to the curb). And with that, I realized that she is not human. She is a living breathing walking talking AI. Ask it a question and it spits out jargon.
It starts out perfectly coherent and then goes south once she loses track. Like if she is asked a question or anything.
Her well written, perfectly designed talking points and stories sound good. They lull you to sleep before you realize she has said absolutely nothing. Without a lot of pressure, she is a perfect Stepford Wife. Until you push a little.
The AI Economy
Call me a luddite if you will. I know very little about AI as it is being rolled out. As a sci fi nut, I already understand what it can potentially do. In fact, it is major theme of sci fi stories – Man vs Technology. Who will win?
I align with the idea of mistrust of the technology that might think for itself. or in the words of Arthur Weasley, Arthur Weasley says, “Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can’t see where it keeps its brain.”
While that is from Fantasy rather than sci fi, it hits the theme. Terminator lays it out:
Skynet becomes self-aware on August 29, 1997 at 2:14 AM Eastern Time.
The whole idea of AI development today is to use computers to think for people. I was hit in the face with this last year when my daughter asked me for help with a letter for a job. When she asked, she then asked if I was going to use ChatGPT, and if so, she asked me not to. I guess this is a real issue in schools nowadays where students are looking to AI to write their papers.
All makes sense when you think about it. But then again, how are you going to learn to write if you never do it yourself?
Someone asked me once to check out ChatGPT. I asked for what. As I sat there, my first thought was to get it to generate bitcoin blockchain. I soon found out from the glib answers it gave me that this was probably one of the first things people had AI doing.
Back to the Veep
After absorbing 90 minutes of her politico-babble during the debate, I started to see it. A Pattern. The performance at the debate was at its pinnacle. The babble had been perfected to the point of perfection. People were being lulled into the trance they needed.
But like a Stepford on overload, Harris is exploding. The “interview” with ABC Philadelphia Action News Correspondant Brian Taff showed it all. She was asked a question (maybe about the economy) and she launched into her “I was raised in a middle class household” speech from Tuesday. And it has not aged well at all.
Do we laugh at how foolish she sounded? Do we cry? Do we fight it? How do we fight it?
Unfortunately there is not a pair of They Live! glasses laying around to reveal the lies in front of us. We have to see it. To question it. To deny it. To fight it!
