Happy Diwali
Happy Diwali 2022: Diwali, known as the festival of lights, is one of the most auspicious festivals in India. Also known as Deepavali, the festival is celebrated by the entire country. It is commemorated by lighting diyas and decorating the house. The five-day festival which begins with Dhanteras and ends with Bhai Dooj marks the homecoming of Lord Rama after his 14-year exile. This year it will be celebrated on October 24.
On this day people clean up their houses, exchange gifts, and celebrate with their friends and family by bursting firecrackers. A special prayer is also offered to goddess Lakshmi as this ritual is believed to bring prosperity and good luck.
I wanted to talk about this today (the 23rd) because technically in India it has already started. Think about this. 1.38 Billion Indians are celebrating today. Well maybe not all of them, but most. You might pretend that in the USA and Europe not everyone celebrates Christmas. But everything is still closed and society stops. Now just imagine that happening. And the collective populations of Europe and the US are a little bit more than half of the population of India.
So there are a WHOLE LOT MORE people celebrating this than what we know.
So the challenge: Let’s all join them. You may not have a Lamp, but you might be able to find a candle. And you may not have firecrackers, but you can offer a prayer for good luck.
