Whether you are a fan of Ozzy Osbourne or not, in honor of his death I would ask that you listen to this song. It stands out as a testament to how amazingly ahead of his time that Ozzy was.

War Pigs was released in 1970. Heavy Metal was not a thing AT ALL. Rock Bands like Hendricks and Led Zeppelin were hitting the scene. But there was nothing like Sabbath. And en entire genre grew up behind them.

The song was written about evil. Given the backdrop of the Viet Nam war, it took on a whole new meaning. War was Evil.

Consider what the other anti war musicians were like. So much of it Folk Music – Bob Dylan, The Weavers, Peter Paul and Mary. They all carried the themes. But to Kum Ba Ya crowds wearing Nehru Jackets and ripped jeans.

I was personally born during the Summer of Love 1967. So I wasn’t listening to much rock music until the mid to late 70’s. And I cannot personally remember Ozzy until Crazy Train came out in 1980.

Its 55 years since War Pigs was released (Paranoid was on that album – also worth a listen to). Ozzy has gone. But we have his music. Enjoy f you would like. And if you do not enjoy it, at least learn a little bit from him. Ahead of his time.
