Happy Monday! Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. ~Joseph Campbell
Last Monday I began a discussion about dreams. I recalled a quote from Harry Potter by Albus Dumbledore,
“Of course it is happening inside your head Harry, but why on Earth should that mean that it is not real?”
At the time, Harry was technically dead after being cursed by Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest. But transported in his mind to his own version of Kings Cross Station where he is having a conversation with Dumbledore, who is giving him a pep talk about how to get to the end of the story. Where Light wins and Dark is banished.
The point to be made, though, is that just because it is technically in his head (in a dream) that somehow it is still real. In the talk, Dumbledore speaks to him from beyond the veil of death. Just as had his parents, Sirius and Lupin with the Resurrection Stone. And also in the Cemetery when Harry and Voldemort’s wands crossed.
Funny how with all the magic shown in the Harry Potter series, the characters still stood in awe of death. And had trouble with all sorts of what might be called practical magic like astrology, divination. prophesies and dreams.
And while all of that was just a story, it points to the possibilities that none of us understand in the here and now about either the world of dreams or the world after life.
It is another quote by Dumbledore, in the Prisoner of Azkaban, where Dumbledore makes another astute observation:
“For in dreams we enter a world that is entirely our own. Let them swim in the deepest ocean, or glide over the highest cloud”
We in our work-a-day lives often pass over the significance of dreams.
For some of us, they are the source of inspiration. It is a place where we can tap into the world beyond. Some call it our subconscious. Others believe it is another place entirely. Where we may have some control, yet there can be a wealth of information at our finger tips.
Call it whatever you may like. Some call it the Akashic record. I like that one myself. The idea that there is some cosmic library we can go to.
It is believed that some people have ready access to this realm. People like Albert Einstein, Nicola Tesla and Srinivasa Ramanujan – considered super geniuses. All who claimed that they accessed this alternate source.
Ask yourself if other people throughout history may also have had this connection. Say Jesus Christ or Mohammed or Moses or The Buddha or Confucius. All would be considered powerful and influential personas who claimed divine contact.
In today’s world, ask yourself where others may get their inspiration. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos. Are they all just geniuses? Lucky? Or divinely inspired?
I like to believe that all of this is within everybody’s reach. The question remains. How do you get there? And once you do, do you have the inspiration to do anything with it?
As Joseph Campbell stated, each of us has meaning. I think it is up to us to do something with that meaning. To bring it to life.
If it takes a dream to bring it to life, then it’s time for bed. I can’t wait to see it!
