The Happy Monday message was taken from Sol Luckman’s book Get Out of Here Alive. But the context in the book was different than my meaning here. I like the idea of playing here in the world. Our life id often too serious. And we need to remember to enjoy it and delight in it.
His book discusses this in terms of technology, and our use of it. Which is another direction entirely from the Happy energy I wanted to introduce today. But funny enough, is part of something I have been stewing on for the past few weeks here while talking about Trump, Elon and 5D chess.
Why Do Billionaires Do What They Do?
This is a question I ask myself a lot. Forbes magazine claims there are 2781 billionaires on Earth right now. They claim that these billionaires control about $14.2 trillion dollars. By comparison, they estimate that the total volume of business on Earth for 2024 was about $110 trillion.
Some other interesting statistics. There are 735 billionaires in the United States and 607 in China. I have always wondered what a Chinese billionaire does with their life . . . in a communist country where rights are questionable. Ask Jack Ma maybe. If you can find him.
When it comes to people who have amassed that much wealth, they are living on another plane than the rest of us. On the one hand, they can arrange their life in whatever way they might want. On the other hand, they had to have done something pretty different than the rest of us to get to the place where they are.
Here is where the whole 5D chess comes in. You might say that these people got to where they are because they have more balls in the air, like a wildly talented juggler. But more likely, it is due to having figured out a completely different way of looking at things. And this way has been their key to success. The question is whether they have achieved their status through something unique or whether it could be described as superhuman. Definitely questions to ask.
Which bring me back to our friend Elon. I heard a speech of his the other day. I think it was from a TED talk or some other such event. But it helped me at least see a little bit into who he is.
There are a lot of negative things in the world. There are a lot of terrible things that are happening all over the world all the time. There are lots of problems that need to get solved. There are lots of things that are miserable and kind of get you down. But life cannot be about solving one miserable problem after another. That can’t be the only thing. There need to be things that inspire you. That make you glad to wake up in the morning and be part of humanity.
You think about how he got to be the richest man in the world:
Joined Paypal to make the most successful and safe online payment platform
Founded SpaceX as a Commercial option for travel to space
Created Tesla to bring a cool Electric Car to market
Created Starlink to bring high speed internet satellites to remote areas of the earth
Purchased Twitter to expose the fraud of censorship on the platform.
Now his and Trump brought us DOGE – The Department of Government Efficiency – to make the government profitable.
Think about each of these endeavors and look at them under the microscope of the statement above. Reread it a moment. It sounds like Elon in all of his uncomfortable, accented and possibly autistic English. I believe this filter goes far to explain how he thinks and what he hopes to accomplish.
Which brings me back to Sol Luckman’s comment “to bring your ideas to life for the benefit of yourself and, with any luck, others.”
Makes me think that the essence of what we should all be trying to do is just as this says. Play . . . and bring your ideas to life. And as we do this, we follow our bliss, we might just benefit the world.
