Funny that I would use this silly statement and call attention to it. Funny because I effectively began boycotting the Star Wars universe and pretty much everything associated with Disney. This boycott was in response to their treatment of Gina Carrano, from the Star Wars Mandalorian series.
My reason, simple. Disney finally crossed a line with woke politics where I would no longer ignore it or accept it. They declared that people within their sphere who did not comply with their political agenda could and would be cancelled. They have that right. I have the right not to accept it.
I thought it was a shame at the time. The Mandalorian was some of the best Star Wars storytelling ever. The platform offered the ability to tell more and they did it an made it exciting and interesting.
And then they made politics an issue.
I grew up in Southern California. We lived about a half hour away from Disneyland, and usually went to the park at least twice a year. In the 70’s, our goto Sunday night television was the Wonderful Word of Disney. We saw
Disney owns and operates the ABC television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic; publishing, merchandising, music, and theater divisions; direct-to-consumer streaming services such as Disney+, Star+, ESPN+, Hulu, and Hotstar.
Add to all that, October 30, 2012 Disney bought Lucasfilm (and the entire Star Wars Universe). March 20, 2019, Disney bought 21st Century Fox (not Fox News, just the Entertainment part of the business).
I bring all of this up in order to make a few points and ask you all a few very important questions.
Points
- Disney is one of 6 multinational conglomerates controlling over 90% of the News and Entertainment industry.
- Disney’s present CEO is Bob Iger, who was previous the leader of ABC. Is a Democrat.
- Disney has been remaking its staple stories into Live Action movies and changing them to conform with DEI (Little Mermaid, Snow White, Lion King)
- Disney has actively removed from circulation movies that no conger conform with their beliefs (Song of the South, Peter Pan, Aladdin, Fantasia, The Three little Pigs)
- Most recently, Disney has multiple cases of Males impersonating women in their parks, underscoring pro trans activism being promoted by Disney.
These points are controversial and worthy of paying attention to and taking notice of. None of them individually caused me to take action against Disney. As I stated above, the straw that broke the camel’s back was Gina Carrano.
To me they are symptoms of the kind of rot going an everywhere. Large organizations have been taking over the entertainment and news agencies that we consume. And as we see, they are pushing an agenda through their control.
Back in the early 1990’s, the Fox News agency was created by Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes. They wanted to begin presenting news from a more conservative point of view. Up until then, ALL of the news was liberal. And no one was able to do much about it.
This enraged the other News Outlets. HOW DARE FOX present an alternative point of view? Since its inception, the Left has referred to it as Faux News and done all in their power to marginalize all they are saying. And at no time admitting to their own biases.
I personally find Disney’s position in all of this the most insidious. And this is because, having grown up a Disney kid, I trusted them. Their characters were part of my childhood. And over the past 20 years, they have been largely cancelled or rewritten to promote an agenda. And everything new coming out becomes a virtue signal for some Climate or gender or racial justice movement.
This is one of the many reasons why I fight. I see it and cannot stay silent.
