4 Questions:

1 – Can you integrate your will and your emotions?
2 – Do you have undiscovered talents or undeveloped talents?
3 – How can you benefit from the “Pilgrim’s Passage” or the “Pilgrim’s Mountain Climb?”
4 – What “colors” your life?  What makes life not be black, white, and gray?

Yesterday I asked everyone to consider these questions and try to answer them. I would do the same. So here were my answers.

1 – Can you integrate your will and your emotions?
I believe that emotions have a far far greater impact on our lives that they are given credit for. Some of the most powerful ideas and movements are born out of emotion. And it is the strength of those emotions that determines how far they will take you.

I have a couple of examples from fictional stories that may illustrate this point. Both from Harry Potter.

The first is from The Prisoner of Azkaban. Professor Lupin is teaching Harry to perform the Patronis Charm. This charm is a positive force created by the wizard which will overcome another negative force. In this case the evil Dementors. To cast the spell, Lupin instructs Harry to think of a powerful positive memory. Casting the spell draws on that energy. Harry tries to cast the spell throughout the movie. But it is only after he comes up with the most powerful memory and combines it with complete belief that the spell becomes successful.

The second is from The Order of the Phoenix. Harry is facing Belatrix LaStrange, after she has just killed his godfather Sirius Black. To subdue her, he casts the Cruciatus Curse at her. This is a forbidden curse that is also called the torture curse, that causes extreme pain to the victim. When the curse hits her, it knocks her down. But then she starts laughing at him, stating that when you cast dark curses, you have to mean it. That to throw and evil curse, you have to feel the evil inside and be able to use it.

Now I realize these are both fictional examples of magic that I would expect most people have not ever seen in their lives. here in our 3D world. But the lesson is a good one. We have emotions. And many of them have serious power behind them. We need to become masters of our own emotions and learn to use their energy for what we want to accomplish.

2 – Do you have undiscovered talents or undeveloped talents?
This is both a question to ask ourselves and a challenge. Do you have a secret talent? Are you musical and can you create music? I can play a piano. But you can hardly call what comes out of it music. I think the only instrument I can play would look more like a radio. Are you athletically strong? Crazy smart at Math? Can you write?

The idea is to look within yourself and work on developing things that you have an interest in into something better. Or search to find what talent you might be good at.

For me, I look to writing. I find that I write the best when I am writing the most. I set daily goals for myself to write specific amounts. Is it a blog post? Two? I find as I write more, I have more ideas develop. I keep a log book for those ideas I cannot get to.

Find that thing. That undiscovered talent. And devote yourself to it. Make it a healthy obsession.

3 – How can you benefit from the “Pilgrim’s Passage” or the “Pilgrim’s Mountain Climb?”
We are all on a journey in life. The question is whose journey is it that you are on. Are you Captain Jack Sparrow? Or are you just the guy who trims the sails on his ship? Where is this journey taking you? Are you the passenger or are you the Captain.

This lesson questions what part of your life you are taking responsibility for. Ask yourself. Where do you want to be. Decide whether you want to be the one at the reins.

4 – What “colors” your life?  What makes life not be black, white, and gray?

If you have ever seen the movie Joe Vs the Volcano or Pleasantville or The Wizard of Oz, the idea of this becomes clear. Are you living a life too ordinary? Is everything the result of things not in your power? Do you dream for more. What are the things that bring color and clarity and good into your life? It is important for you find these things and cultivate them. Use them to add color to every aspect of you life.

For me this challege is an everyday thing. As a parent of 10 kids, it is our job to bring color into our children’s lives. To show them that life is more than ordinary. That we can create that color with a little bit of thought and imagination and emotion.

Questions Going Forward

This exercise is one we should all do more often. Question yourself on a regular basis. Are you on the right track? Is what you are doing making you happy? What can you do to make it better? Add some Color? Impart some emotion?

Today I found this meme put together by Ben Davidson of Suspicious0bservers. A few short words that we should all take to heart as we travel this road. Are you alone? Are you with others? Are they like minded? Will they follow you?

All questions to consider.
