Happy Monday! Be Happy and sing it out loud!

What song makes you Happy? This is a participatory post, so I am hoping for some input.

Today, I have been infected by a pretty intense earworm. It’s been almost debilitating. This was was directly caused by my Happy Monday message and the song that first entered my head. And of course, the message was born out of the Earth Sabian Symbol “A prima donna singing.”

The song, “Sing for the Day” by Styx has been stuck right here in my ear.

Sing for the day
Sing for the moment
Sing for the time of your life
Come for an hour
Stay for a moment
Stay for the rest of your life

If you have not heard it before, be thankful. It is painfully upbeat and made to be sung by Jr. High School choirs across the country.

Another song of this ilk include “Sing” by the Carpenters. You know, it goes:

Sing
Sing a song
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Sing of good things, not bad
Sing of happy, not sad

This one was originally written and performed for the television show Sesame Street, then adapted by The Carpenters for Pop music purposes.

And these two songs have been stuck in my head all day. I would have done one of my standard clearing exercises to get rid of them, but have been waiting to write about it here. Unfortunately I had a couple errands followed by a couple of meetings. And all that time . . . “Sing for the Day. Sing for the moment. Sing for the time of your life.”

How to Clear an Earworm

Now not all earworms are bad or toxic. I generally always have a song in my head. And if I am lucky, it is one I like. But then there are days like these. And a bad and irritating earworm takes steady and concerted effort. With the right formula, you can do it.

My formula is called AC/DC Back in Black. It is a super easy song to think of in a pinch. When I hear it in my minds eye, it is always loud. I always can make my body bounce to the beat. Once I hit the chorus, the earworm is gone.

Now this may not work for everyone. You may not like AC/DC. Or you may not know Back in Black.

This is not a problem though. All you have to do is find your song. Make it one you know very well. It helps if it has a steady beat. And helps even more if you can turn it up to 11 in your head. Also helps if you know enough of the lyrics in your head to make it work. Couple of examples I can also get to in a second include Kashmir by Led Zeppelin or LA Woman by the Doors.

So I suggest you try it next time you get The Brady Bunch or Three’s Company theme songs stuck in your head. Go ahead and try it because I know that you are singing “Come and knock on our door” right this second. Now Kill it off quick.

Back in black
I hit the sack
I’ve been too long, I’m glad to be back
Yes, I’m let loose
From the noose
That’s kept me hanging about

See it works.

This process of clearing your head works with things other than songs as well. If you are watching TV and Joe Biden comes on:

Back in black
I hit the sack

The weatherman claims that the snowstorm that hit California was caused by Climate Change:

Back in black
I hit the sack

The news story about getting your 8 C0v1d booster comes on:

Back in black
I hit the sack

Pay Attention. It works.

WAIT – The Participation Part

In the comments, please list the song or songs that make you happy. I will make a happy play list.
