Hope comes in many flavors and many colors. I will share a few with you that capture some of its flavors.

A few years back there was a television show called Glee. It followed an high Scholl Glee Club through the ups and downs of growing up. The Club were a group of oddballs from all walks of the school life. The Kids get together each day and sing songs throughout the episode. The songs were not original. But they were covers of popular music that usually held some meaning to the story.

did not watch it while it was on. But it became a binge watch that my wife and I watched.

For some reason, we never finished the final season. However we have watched the final episode about 10 times. The Episode is entitled “Dreams Come True.” The final song is one I did not know before I saw it. And it is all about Hope. I invite you to listen and then check out the Lyrics below. And keep reading because there is more to the story.

I Lived

Hope when you take that jump
You don’t feel the fall
Hope when the water rises, you built a wall
Hope when the crowd screams out
They’re screaming your name
Hope if everybody runs, you choose to stay
I hope that you fall in love
And it hurts so bad, yeah, oh
The only way you can know
You give it all you had (hey, yeah)
And I hope that you don’t suffer
But the take the pain
Hope when the moment comes you’ll say
I, I did it all
I, I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
Yeah, with every broken bone
I swear I lived
Hope that you spend your days
Where they all add up
Now when that sun goes down
Hope you raise your cup
I wish that I could witness all your joy
And all your pain
But until my moment comes I’ll say
I, I did it all
I, I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places the things that I did
Yeah, with every broken bone
I swear I lived
Hey
With every broken bone, I
I, I did it all (I did it all, yeah)
I, I did it all (I did it all, yeah)
I owned every second that this world could give
(This world could give)
I saw so many places the things that I did
Yeah, with every broken bone, I swear I lived
Oh yeah
I swear I lived

As With Many Stories . . .

. . . it does not end with the ending of Glee. As I said, I have watched the episode about 10 times and this video countless times. But I never thought to look at who sang the song in the first place. That I just found out tonight when i looked it up.

The band . . . Onerepublic. Surprisingly this is a group I listen to. They sing songs like Good Life and Counting Stars. I think they have a thing for the uplifting. So when I found out, I then watched their video of the song. And frankly it blew me away.

They tell the story of a young kid with Cystic Fibrosis, whose life everyday is counted as numbered. CF kids take breathing treatments every day not knowing if that day will be their last breath. And the message of the song is to live our life every day with Hope for what more you can do. So I ask you listen again. It is worth the time – and the tears.
