ASTR101 – New Moon in Leo – July 31, 2019 11:11 PM EST

NEW MOON: begin, initiate, wish, project, set an intention

At the time of the New Moon, we mark it at 0 degrees. The Moon moves across the sky at a rate of about .5 degrees per hour – or about 12 degrees per day. We split that into the eight phases of the moon, each with its own energetic signature.

NEW MOON

At the time of the New Moon, the Moon is located directly in between the Sun and the Earth. You might ask, :Then why do we not have an eclipse every month at the New Moon?” I will get into this question another time. But it has to do with the orbital plane of the Moon being different than that of the Earth to the sun. 2 times per year, they meet (at the Spring and Autumn Equinox) and can potentially offer us an eclipse.

The Moon does not generate any light itself. The bright moon is caused by the light of the Sun reflecting off its surface. So we can only see brightness on the side of the Moon that faces the sun. When the Moon is stationed in between, we see nothing but darkness.

Astrologically, it is said that the energy of the Moon is at its lowest point. It is the starting point of the lunar cycle.

For the Leo Cycle, this happened at 11:11 PM on July 31. The Moon and Earth were at 8 degrees 37 minutes of Leo. We round up to 9 degrees to get the Sabian Symbol that will describe the energy activated – “glass blowers shape beautiful vases with their controlled breathing”

REMEMBER THE SCRAMBLER

If you remember the analogy of the Scrambler – Carnival Ride, This is the point where you feel like you are suspended in air. The torque is ab out to take hold. You are about to accelerate. But it has not started.

Since it is the beginning, it is said that it is a good time for us to set intentions for the Lunar Month.

Kind of like New Years resolutions, you can follow the same type of plans each month by setting intentions. These may not need to be as long ranging (Like quitting cigarettes or losing 50 lbs). This is the time to start. The energy is ramping up and you will be in prime position to launch whatever your intention. It will be supported by the increasing energy of the Moon; you will be as if surfing the lunar cycle.

The day of the New Moon is a quiet time to pause and rest in nature. As it is good complete the old before starting something new, the last few days before the New Moon are good for getting rid of things you don’t want to have any more in your life, like bad habits.

Also, your body may not be able to recuperate or heal as well or as quickly around the New Moon. This should be taken into account when planning a surgery.

Similarly, the New Moon can mark a low point in the emotional life, so people who are prone to depression should be careful about the surrounding emotional atmosphere on these days.

Born Under the New Moon

Do you know what phase the moon was in when you were born. This is not a common piece of astrology that is looked at. In my opinion, one that is not given the importance it deserves. After discovering my own, I was able to see its influence over my life. I may talk more about that when we get to the disseminating phase (HINT HINT).

If you do not know it, it is simple to find. Go to a search engine. Search:

“Lunar Phase at Birth”

There are many sites that will give you this information. I will outline the basic lunar phase astrology for each phase in upcoming posts. But for now, we are starting

New Moon – Low Energy Phase

  • In tune with what they want
  • Try new things with Childlike wonder and innocence
  • It is a loving energy
  • Drawn to try new things and follow trends
  • They are Creative idea people
  • Aggressively go after what they want
  • Always a shiny new idea on the horizon
  • Dog like enthusiasm – like a large labrador chasing things around

But

  • Energy can bee fleeting
  • Fizzles out before its done
  • Dog like enthusiasm like ADHD – jumping to the next shiny object they see and forgetting what they were aggressively attacking moments before
  • Cloaked in a darkness around themselves – Unable to see how they are from an outside perspective.

How New Moon people can Relate to the other phases.

  • Low Energy phases are good – Including Balsamic, New and Crescent – This is when mind and heart are in alignment
  • High energy Phases are more Difficult – Gibbous, Full and Disseminating
  • Full Moon is a time to look inward and focus on personal reflection. The energy at full moon is the full expression of the energy exposed at the New Moon. It is more intense though.
  • Quarter Phases use to evaluate self.
