Moon Day!
“One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” is celebrated on National Moon Day on July 20.
Today is National Moon Day? WTH? Have you heard of such a thing? Actually it is International Moon Day as the United Nations has gotten in on the game and Intertnationalized it in 2022. As stated by the UN itself:
The UN General Assembly declared 20 July International Moon Day to honour both the anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing and raise public awareness regarding the commitment to sustainable lunar exploration on the part of national and international space programmes worldwide.
National Moon Day, also known as the Space Exploration Day, is observed on July 20 every year to commemorate the anniversary of the United States’ first crewed mission to the moon, and the landing of astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on moon on July 20, 1969.

Interesting information about the Moon. We look at it – often every night. It is part of our world and we know so little about it.
Kids learn about it in books like Goodnight Moon and the nursery rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle. It is part of our entertainment culture as the cause of Werewolves to turn. At least in some of the stories.
It also holds a very strong position in Astrology. As the second strongest energetic influence on us after the sun. And above you can see we are in the New moon phase – where we begin and set intentions. Tomorrow that will end when we get to crescent phase. The energy as characterized by the Sabian Symbol at the time of the New Moon at 25 Cancer “a leader of men wrapped in an invisible mantle of power.”
As for this weird little holiday or observance or whatever you want to call it, I have no idea what to do with it. Saw nothing about it on the News of even on Discovery or the History Channel today. In fact the only reason I knew about it was that it was noted on my Farmer’s Almanac calendar and had to google the rest.
I brought my attention to another relatively unknown observance: National Hot Dog day. It was yesterday if you missed it. We celebrated a day late and fired up the grill tonight for hot dogs and sausage. I did hear about that one on the news. Shows they are more interested toxic meat-products than about the Earth’s satellite.
