The story of the Tower of Babel from The Bible tells of the people building a tower to reach to the heavens and God knocking in down as a challenge of his power. God then made all the people start speaking in different languages. They did not understand each other and then dispersed around the Earth to not challenge the authority of God again. (If my quick Cliffs Notes version of the story is not as accurate as you remember, I invite you to pick up any number of translations of said Bible and check it out for yourself)
As this story is also central (the in the beginning part) to the Abrahamic religions (Judiasm, Christianity and Islam). It is understood and part of the world view of all of them.
But the story itself is not limited here. Similar stories abound through many other religions. Hinduism has the story of The World Tree. The Japanese islands have and the legend of Amaterasu. And thr Hopi Indians have a similar tale.
You can ask yourself a couple questions:
- Is this a way that man is attempting to understand a grand plan in the differences around the world?
- Is this a Universal God trying to keep us in our place?
Whichever it may be, it describes an existential issue we in the human race have; communicating with one another. And the simple barrier of not universally speaking the same language.
You would think in this day and age, we would have found a way to conquer this barrier. Each epoch has often centralized around a basic language. Presently, English is as close to universal as we have. But Franch and Latin and others have also held sway. But despite this, cultures pretty well stick to their own languages in their homes.
Lost in Translation

With the exception of a few genetically gifted people, most of us stick to a single language. Often people will pick up a second that they are somewhat conversant in. And depending on where you might live in the world, more diversity is needed. Consider the country of India (Happy Holi to all of you BTW) has 22 different languages that they admit to (Constitutionally). And there is not a single language that they can use to communicate with the entire country.
I bring this up as in also makes sense that even when there are people who can speak multiple languages, more often they are unable to understand a lot of the nuances between the different languages. Or can converse, but miss out on a lot of the meaning.
I bring all of this up as an introduction to the topic. I have been noticing a lot of instances of this lack of understanding and language barriers. And I am asking whether it is all part of a grand scheme (spiritually). Or maybe it is actually being weaponized.
Stay tuned and please consider joining the discussion. It will be in my mother tongue (American English). But feel free to add in tidbits from your own origin.
