If You Need a Reason

I am pretty well versed in the reasons for wanting to prepare for the next thang that may happen. Not only have I consulted some of the most impactful media (movies and TV like The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, Mad Max, Deep Impact, The Living Dead, etc.), but then took it to the next level and actually asked myself what to do in case The Shit Hits the Fan.

I enjoy these movies not just for the spectacle of the disasters. But also, to see how they depict the reactions of the people it is happening to. When the Shit Hits, first priority is survival of the event. But then you have to consider how you will survive the rest of the survivors.

PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – Shell Shock) is a real thing. We experience trauma. Our body reacts. Will you be catatonic? Will you go into survival mode? Do you know what you will do?

You must ask the question, What Will You Do?

Seems easy enough. Of course you will do your best to try to survive. Have survival food on hand. Secure water supply. Pack a Go Bag. Have “protection” available. Learn survival skills. Know how to build a fire without matches.

But then ask yourself what makes you so special that you will be one of the 5-10% that make it through a catastrophe?

One movie I cannot recommend strong enough as an example of how to handle a catastrophe is The Terminator. I say this because it takes an ordinary young person (Sarah Connor) and places her in an impossible scenario. Her reality is turned on its side and she is forced to survive. And from the start, she is not good at it. But survive she does. Through mind blowing trauma.

It ends, Sarah, now pregnant with John by Reese, travels through Mexico with a guard dog, recording audio tapes to pass on to her son. At a gas station, a boy takes an instant film photograph of her, the exact one that John will one day give to Reese, and she purchases it. The gas station owner remarks that a storm is coming and she says “I know.”, alluding to humanity’s impending conflict against Skynet, before driving away.

She learned the hard way why she had to survive.

Disaster Cycle

Yesterday I shared The Disaster Cycle documentary by SpaceWeatherNews/Suspicious0bservers. It offers some of the most convincing arguments for why we should be preparing and what we should be preparing for. Please take a couple hours and watch it.

SpaceWeatherNews’ documentary explores Earth’s disaster cycle, examining the sun’s influence on our planet. The film investigates cyclical geomagnetic reversals and their potential impact on our climate and technology. Prepare for a deep dive into scientific research and historical evidence.
