I grew up in the 70’s on a suburban cul de sac. There were about 50 kids on the street and we played outside all year long (Southern California weather allows that). What were we playing? Hide and seek, Football, baseball. Riding bikes or . . . Guns.
Every kid on the street had their cache of toy guns. Cap guns. Machine Guns. Rifles. Pistols. The louder the better.
My Mom was the safety type. All our guns had to be obviously toys (like Bright orange or chrome cowboy pistols – very non military).
The point here was that we would have waves of all out wars on the street. For my life I cannot figure out what the point of our games were. Usually if you got shot you would have to count to 10 or 50 before you could rejoin the game.
But it kept us entertained.
Not My Only Rodeo
Though I lived in suburbia, we were regular campers. We would go out once a month with the Elks Camping group. Mountains, Beach, Desert. Southern California had it all within about 2 hours.
With the sportsmen in the group, camping sites where we could shoot came often. I never owned more than a BB/Pellet air rifle as a kid. But I did have the opportunity to shoot many different guns. 22 pistols and rifles, 45 and 9mm pistols, a few other deer rifles and a 30-06. We also would regularly shoot trap with 12 and 20 gauge shot guns.
Of chief importance at all times while shooting was gun safety. I laughed during the movie Avatar when Sully commented, “There’s nothing like an old-school safety brief to put your mind at ease.” And the teachings we had were father to son, mentor to student. And stuck with me ever since:
- Always keep you gun pointed in a safe direction
- Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
- Always keep your gun unloaded until ready to use
I remember these lessons every time I see guns handled on TV. Or when we hear about the mass shootings that the media wants to highlight all the time.
Where have we gotten to in 40 years?
I was remembering this over the past week after hearing of yet another Mass Shooting on the News. Except for . . . it wasn’t really a “mass shooting” as has been defined by media hysteria of today. It wasn’t a Sandy Hook or a Columbine or a Pulse Nightclub or Mandalay Bay.
This was just a run of the mill shooting where a guy went to someone’s home and killed two people. The guy was an illegal immigrant from Mexico. The victims were neighbors who were annoyed he was shooting in his backyard. And I call it run of the mill because there are generally about 30 such shootings in Chicago every weekend. And similar numbers in every big city around the country. I know here in Pennsylvania, the annual shootings and murder numbers always dwarf the previous years’ figures.
Of course this Texas Mass Shooting made headline news across the country due to the fact that an ASSAULT WEAPON was used. My “favorite” morning news program on CBS devoted a whole 5 minutes detailing every single aspect of the shooting on National Television. Every detail of course EXCEPT that the perpetrator as an illegal alien. And the guns were illegally obtained.
And frankly it took a serious amount of effort to cover this story from every other angle.
The Seems to Be a Serious Disconnect in Denmark
The media hysteria that created the story from last weekend echoes the mainstream narrative about all things Guns reported in the news today. At least this is all that the mainstream will allow to be talked about. They have stories and documentaries. They wheel out David Hogg and Gabby Giffords and any other national victim they can find to scream GUNS ARE BAD.
And then think about schools. Do you believe that the Second Amendment is being accurately taught in many schools throughout the USA? Do you think it is possible that there are ANY textbooks being used today that mention the rights we have about owning firearms and exactly why we have them (and no it is not because sportsmen should have the right to hunt).
The fact of it is that the Globalist Left is hell bent and determined to disarm the whole of the population. It is a common thread among the Command and Control crowd. Disarm the population and do whatever you want.
History shows us what happens when this form of control is implemented: Nazi Germany, The Ukraine under Stalin, China under Mao. The US under King George. It was the situation with England that caused our Second Amendment written in the first place. And if you believe other history, may have been a major deterrent keeping Japan from attempting an invasion of the Mainland US – they were sure that every American had guns and would fight them.
So we have:
- The Globalist Cabal going full on Nazi against the Private ownership of firearms
- The same Cabal waging war in the Ukraine
- The American Left trying to mirror the Globalists, despite doing so breaking a central tenant to the character of our Nation
- The News media trying to tell the story of the horror of guns (Its not the people, damnit, its the guns)
- The Entertainment industry sending non stop woke messages against guns – then producing shoot-em-up cops and robbers movies
- The Government school system teaching kids that “guns kill people”
With all this anti-gun woke hysteria floating around, you would expect that the impressionable Woke Gen Z’s matriculating through Common Core would be living the life they have been taught and they are dutifully voting for. BUT NO! Have you heard of this?
A game created by a student from Salem high school in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The game consists of a group of high school seniors ONLY, who are all assigned targets anonymously. The point of the game is for an assassin to eliminate their target with a small water gun before each round ends, which is 7 days. They MUST submit a video of the elimination to the senior assassin instagram page for their targets elimination to count.
The game can be changed each round with new challenges, such as if an assassin eliminates their target in a specific amount of time, then they can informed on who their assigned assassin is for that round.
Assassins cannot eliminate their target while on a shift at work, in school, or on school property, OR during any school events (such as prom, or before prom).
NOW FULL DISCLOSURE – I played this when I was in high school back in the early eighties. We used Star Trek Disk Guns rather than water guns. What can I say. We were geeks. But back in the 80’s, this kind of thing was OK.
But given today’s high strung, anti-gun environment, I was torn. For the last 2 years, two of my kids have been involved with these games.
Am I in shock that these kids would do such a thing?
Or is my heart warmed to see my kids breaking free of the command and control system and having some fun?
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
IMHO the globalist cabal has been actively waging a campaign to disarm the population of the world in order to more easily take control. They want a docile population (like the 1.7 Billion Chinese people) unarmed and dedicatedly working. And when groups of people fall out of line (like say the Uyghurs), They can be easily huddled off to
slave labor camps reeducation facilities to be taught more socially acceptable ways of being.
At present, we here in the US are protected by the second amendment. And no matter what they get the Biden-puppet to sign by the UN, our rights cannot be infringed by the government.
A few Monday’s ago, I issued a challenge to try something new every week. One of the ideas on that list was to go and fire a gun. If you are a gun owner, all is a bit easier. Take it to a range and fire off a few rounds of ammunition.
If you do not, you have options. Look up online (I would have said the Yellow Pages, but I do not think it still exists) about where the closes gun range it. Call them up and ask if they have options to learn to shoot.
On the one hand, it is a Constitutional right here in the US. On the other, it is lots of fun and incredibly empowering.
And should the shit hit the fan any time soon, you will have at least tried it before you are forced to by circumstance.
