Little Things
Do you ever ask yourself how a song makes it onto the soundtrack in your head? Think about it. How many times do you hear a song and say to your self, “wow, this is one of my favorite songs?”
After saying that to myself enough times, I knew that I had WAY TOO MANY “favorite” songs. So instead of going for the superlative, I changed the way I looked at it. When I acknowledge one of these, I will say it is written into the Soundtrack of My Life. Call it my Cosmic IPod (though I do not own any Apple products personally).
So why do I bring this up? Little Things. That’s why. It’s a little song by Bush. Could I ever call it my “favorite”? Probably not. But I will guarantee you that I will crank that baby up to 11 every time. In fact, I had to put it on to write this.
The astrology of the week spoke of Little Things. Little details to pay attention. Once I read it, the song was there. So I have had it in the background since about Thursday, and it is Saturday morning now.
So what are the Little Things that I have noticed since then?
Brandon is an Idiot – Not a Little Thing. Instead it’s a lot of little things that equal a great big, heaping pile of steaming . . . you get the picture. It is hundreds if not thousands of coordinated messages in the media supporting this catastrophe. It is a concerted effort by this establishment to legitimize what they are doing. It is talked about in speaches, They are broadcast by the “news”, the lamestream commentators wax and swoon over what is said, The Late Night Commedians make jokes in support of it. The left is a well-oiled machine of disinformation. It is so many coordinated little things that create the whole pile of it.
Moments of Beauty – Paying attention to the world around us is important. In the last week we saw a beautiful Full Moon close in the sky with Jupiter. In the Northeast (especially I notice because I am here) we are going through Fall colors. And at times it is breathtaking. I snapped the picture on the Astrogardens Homepage just the other day. It did not show what would be considered rich, bright falll colors. It did show life. One of my big problems with the Fall and Winter and Spring is how dead everything looks. It is dreary and sad. It affects me and I do not like it. So seeing this made me happy.
Also last night I was at my Son’s football game and snapped a picture of the field at dusk.
It was breathtaking to watch. But the picture falls short in so many ways. It did not give you the sound of the crowd waiting in anticipation for the game to start. Or the sound of my phone broadcasting the Phillies game (they were ahead 6-1 at that point). Or the school band playing the school alma mater and the National Anthem. Or the sound of the Train rolling through the countryside about a half mile away at the base of the hills – blowing the train whistle. We noted how loud it was here, even though it was a half mile off. It is the same train that goes past my house (just 2 blocks away and pictured on the header) that we never hear. Maybe since it is closer to town, they aren’t blowing the horn.
Something Special – I do not often talk about my kids. My youngest is 7. He is severly disabled with a genetic defect. It leaves him completely dependent upon us for everything. He is unable to walk or sit up feed himself or even react to us. We often wonder how much he is in there. But we keep on caring for him like he is.
I noticed one of those Little Things with him yesterday and today. I must carry him everywhere (all 45 lbs of him). There is a trick to it to keep him safe. Once he is in my arms, I grab one of his hands and he stays still and will not try to get out of my grip.
He is kind of like a trained elephant who will stay tethered to a small rope tied to a peg. The elephant is big enough to break the rope, but will not. So it has been with AJ.
Yesterday he did something new as I went to pick him up. Instead of leaving his arm dangling to his side, he swung it up around my neck. And he held on. In the five years we have cared for him, he has never done that. It is the hug that has never been reciprocated. And just maybe, it is him communicating in a new way. As I carried him downstaris this morning, he did it again. Is it a Little Thing? Is it Monumental? You tell me. But I loved it.
These are the Little Things we should be paying attention to. Our lives and how we live them and what happens to us while we live it.
I will leave you with a little bit of the Little Things from my cosmic ipod. I don’t know if the lyrics are appropriate for the energy of the day. But I like it. Enjoy and turn it up to 11.
