Happy Thanksgiving to all. As an American Holiday, this is one of my favorites.

Why you may ask. In a word, Turkey! It is my absolute favorite meal of the year. I love the turkey. I love the fixins. All of it.

I remember one year when I was growing up. I was sick on Thanksgiving. I remember smelling the food all day. Wanting to sit down to supper. And in the end, I had to walk away. I could not watch as our family enjoyed the turkey together.

This year we were a little worried. Around Halloween, we started getting hit with C0V1D. Our oldest daughter brought it over. She was exposed at work Forget the fact that she caved to the vax las spring. Her Husband and the inlaws fell next. The 3 vaxcin8ted got sick, but tested negative. The 4 who did not . . . 2 tested +. The other 2 untested, but all the symptoms,

Funny thing though. In out direct household we were hit very mild. Like a cold . . . and no taste or smell.

All that said, we can be thankful for the holiday and we are all ready to dig in – taste intact!

Being Thankful!

The holiday for me has always been more than just the Turkey. It is a day that is all about family. Growing up, we always went to Grandma’s house. And with the exception of the year she put raisins in the stuffing, my memories were always wonderful.

But since I have had my own family, the family dinner has been what it is all about. Sitting around the table and telling everyone what each of us is Thankful for..

Seems a little corny? I hope so. And Corny in a great way.

This year, we will be missing 3 of our children – off with their inlaws. But I want to share some of the experience of thankfulness.

Sharing 2 Special Thanks

Sharing the Thanks. I came across a couple things that I wanted to share with all of you this Thanksgiving.

First, I came across an article that I wanted to share that embodied all that I have always wanted to accomplish by asking what we are Thankful for. I was written by a friend of mine, Jeanie Marshall. And she gave me permission to share it with you all. It reminds us all to say Thank You.

Thanksgiving Reminds Me to Be Thankful and to Say Thank You

An Article By Jeanie Marshall

Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving holiday in the United States begins what most people call “the holiday season.” Other countries have their own celebrations, but at different times of the year. This American holiday, which happens in November, is traditionally a family/community effort, celebrated regardless of race, religion, or national origin.

Be Thankful; Say Thank You

I woke up the other morning thinking about the power of feeling and expressing thanks. During the Thanksgiving holiday, people use a variety of approaches to give thanks. Some people who do not naturally say “thank you,” do so a little more easily at this time of year.

I’ve been pondering the difference between “being thankful” and “saying thank you.” The first is a state of being, a state of mind; the second is an action, an expression with words.

It’s possible to be thankful and say thank you about a person, place, thing, idea, or nothing in particular. Of course, it’s also possible to be thankful and not express thanks and it’s possible to express thanks and not be thankful.

Variations on Being Thankful

In particular, I like the energy and concept of “appreciation” when I consider the state of being that’s filled with thanks. When in that state, there’s no real judgment, but an energy that feeds the one who is appreciating even more than the object (if any) of appreciation.

“Thankfulness” and “Gratitude” seem to be most associated with specific people, places, things, or ideas. When choosing those words, generally people are thankful or grateful FOR something.

I don’t intend for this to be a word game, but an attempt to use words to achieve a deeper meaning. Being thankful as a way of seeing the world is a powerful perspective.

Variations on Saying Thank You

Thanksgiving Flower

Words of gratitude, thanksgiving, and appreciation vary. Many times, a simple “thank you” will be powerful. As a little girl, I said “tan tu” and lit up the faces of those around me.

“How wonderful you are!” and a thousand other variations are also expressions of gratitude, thanksgiving, and/or appreciation.

“You did a nice job” can be the perfect expression of gratitude, thanksgiving, and/or appreciation in the work place, especially where warm words of loving appreciation are not the norm.

Saying some form of “thank you” can energize your own day as well as someone else’s. A smile without any words is another powerful expression because it acknowledges and appreciates the presence of a person. And waking up smiling can place you in the consciousness of thankfulness for the day.

Today, are you thankful? To whom do you want to say thank you today? (HINT: Remember to include yourself and inanimate objects like your car and computer.)

Sometimes I like to share different things I am doing to work on my body. That would be diets and supplements and the like. Today I want to focus on the Liver.

Over the past year and a half, a lot has happened to make us think about health. The lockdowns did nothing good for my health. I did not get sick. But being stuck inside meant that we ate a lot more and exercised a lot less. While I shot up about 25 lbs., I have since lost it back – after a couple 1-month diets. And in that regard am feeling better.

However, other issues have come up. I am now 54 and get a regular checkup. While last year I got a clean bill of health, this year was not so good.

1) Arthritis has built up in my knees. I went through a month of PT and they feel better. but I am too young for replacement. I must follow a workout regiment pretty much every day now or else pain comes back. And god knows I am quite the barometer now. The East Coast Storm has me not moving too fast.

2) Hernia – This is not an age related thing. Most likely caused in the past 2 months carrying our 6yo son, who just had hip surgery. I finally found out exactly why we have the annual “turn-your-head-and-cough” test. Since I am not in pain, they can wait for a while. But that could change at any time and we will be screwed for a few weeks rehabbing.

3) Cologard – You know those cute commercials about a test that Doctors can give you to detect colon cancer. Well I took the test and got a “positive” result. Which means . . .  the medical establishment says I need to get a colonoscopy. This is more of a formality, but we will see.

So Why the Liver?

Getting old sucks. My own father passed away when he was 55. And the reason was liver failure. It caused a heart attack. But it sprang from the liver.

I do not often compare myself to my father healthwise. He was overweight, had high blood pressure and did not eat healthfully. He drank. But I cannot think that was the problem. It was more the combination of blood pressure medicine . . . and drinking. Ended up being a toxic combination.

I have always remembered my father’s health and aligned my lifestyle to not repeat it. When it happened, I was an athlete. I was training every day and controlling my diet and weight. 30 years later I am not in anywhere close to the shape I was in. But I pay attention and have intentionally tried to stay healthier through diet, lifestyle and exercise.

But my fether is not the only person in my life who has needed to watch their liver. Both my oldest son and one of my sons in law have been advised by their doctors to do something about having “Fatty Liver” in the past year.

So I really started looking into what to do about fatty liver. And of course, mainstream medicine says next to nothing. They recommend cutting back on drinking alcohol. And maybe eat healthier and lose weight. Add some exercise. But that’s about the extent of it. No explanation about what’s going on. What can help. Why it will help.

What I am Doing

I am putting together a list of things that I am personally trying to improve the functioning of my liver. Why? Your liver does a lot of things that keep you healthy. It turns nutrients into chemicals your body needs. It filters out poisons. It helps turn food into energy.

I do not believe there are any issues with my own liver. Of all the things my doctor has looked at, he has not seen a problem with my liver. But I see it as a pretty important part of my system and it makes sense to keep good care if it. So here are a few of the things I am doing. I invite you to consider some of them.

1 – Water

One of the best things you can do on a regular basis is to drink water. It is suggested that we drink 8 glasses of water a day. Does that mean it has to be just plain water? I do not know. But I will offer you my thoughts. Remember that whatever is in the water will also go into your body.

a- Drink pure water – You must decide whether the water that comes out of your tap is something that you should be putting into your body. We refer to our tapwater as Schuylkill Punch – after the river that washes down from coal country north of here. And frankly it is probably as gross as that. There are multiple sewage treatment plants along the river And at least 2 more down steam of here before it gets to Philadelphia. As we often say here over a dry summer, “flush a second time. Phili needs the water.”

From there you must choose whether you want to filter the tap water or buy clean water. It is your choice. And I will be talking about it more in future posts. But call it food for thought. Personally, I drink bottled Spring water from the store. We also have a Brita water filter that we keep in the fridge. But I will also admit that my coffee and iced tea are unfiltered.

b – I do not add calories to my drinks. For me that means no sugar. I do not use artificial sweeteners ever. Consider this meme picture about the sugar in different drinks. A 12 oz Coke is about 150 calories. That makes a big Gulp or a Super sized McDonalds drink pushing 500. If you fill your 8 glasses a day with Sugared Drinks, you may as well call it an extra meal.

c. My Coffee and Iced Tea are without sugar. That’s just me. Some people cannot drink these beverages without sweeteners. That’s up to you. But consider what those sweeteners might be doing to your liver, your kidneys, your gall bladder, your waistline. That being said, I have read that Coffee and Tea are good for your liver. I do not know if that is true, but for now I am running with it.

2 – Herbal Teas

There are a few herbal teas that they say are good for your liver. The two herbs I have head of are Dandelion Root and Witch Hazel. I usually have the Dandelion Root tea in my pantry and drink it a few times per week.  Traditional Medicinals is the brand I have used. And I will let you know, it tastes like tree bark. I do not sweeten. And frankly the stuff is not that great tasting.

I have not found a witch hazel tea. But I am open to suggestions.

3 – Supplements

I have found that supplements (ie vitamin pills) are an absolute no no with the mainstream medical establishment. Their reasons? In the end, I have no idea other than, well, there are no prescriptions for them. They are never going to go for a supplement.

Back in August, I started using a liver detox supplement made by Ascent Nutrition. I like it so far because it is natural and made with specific herbs for cleansing the liver. Specifically: Dandelion Leaf Extract,  Solarplast® Chloroplast Complex, Milk Thistle Seed, Artichoke and Enzymes.

I will be going into this in a lot more detail in the future, because I think it get’s to the “doot” of what I want to get to with this liver health thing.

What to Do

These are things that I am doing to improve the functioning of my liver. And I am interested to see where it gets me. There is a lot more to learn about it. Most of which I am sure will be buried deep in places that big people in power do not want little people to know. And have spent countless amounts of money trying to keep out of the public view.

Pay Attention!

Lots of little Subjects to talk about today. Some Good, some Bad, some Ugly. So we will start with the Good.

As you know I follow the Farmer’s Almanac. Receive their emails and check out their site and everything. Today I received this article (dated Oct 11, but whose counting). It talks about Owls.

FASCINATING FACTS ABOUT OWLS

Check it out is you have a few minutes. It made me smile.

On the Fake Lamestream News Front

Story Number One

Big story broke last night/this morning. From Breitbart News:

The Wall Street Journal has published internal material from anonymous sources at Facebook revealing that the company introduced tools that suppressed the traffic of Breitbart News by 20 percent, and other conservative publishers by double-digit margins.

If you would like to read the rest of the article, find it HERE

What it basically shows is that Facebook INTENTIONALLY reduced the reach of Conservative publishers that they disagreed with politically. If you remember the flap last month where the leftwing “whistleblower” sat in front of congress to let the public know that Facebook was doing the exact same thing last Fall (during the election cycle).

So it is not a “shock” to hear that this is happening. It IS A SHOCK to know that they are doing it openly and getting away with it. And by that I mean being allowed to curate information as they see fit without having the designation of “Publisher” and instead hiding behind the title “Platform.”

All of that may seem a little picayune, but it makes a difference. We use Facebook and other Social Media sites as a place to go to interact with people.  a “Platform” is simply the place we go to do it. They are not regulated in the same way as a publisher, who becomes responsible for the information they put out. As a platform, they should not care one iota what people are saying among each other.

When Facebook goes to the extraordinary level of “Controlling” how much and WHAT information you see – and creating preferences for news that they agree with over news that they disagree with, they cross over from Platform to Publisher. By doing so, they “control” what people are seeing and hearing about. They seek to inform the public based upon THEY’RE opinions about what is important and what is not.

For Example. During the George Floyd riots in the Summer of 2020, Breitbart published headlines that looked like this:

“Minneapolis Mayhem: Riots in Masks,” “Massive Looting, Buildings in Flames, Bonfires!” and “BLM Protestors Pummel Police Cars on 101.”

CNN Published this:

“mostly peaceful protests”

Facebook suppressed the Breitbart headlines and gave prominence to CNN. Now you tell me whether your opinion about what was happening as cities were burning all over the country would be influenced by Facebook pushing the headline “Mostly Peaceful Protests”  vs “Massive Looting, Buildings in Flames, Bonfires!”

Story Number Two

Yesterday there was also another hard hitting breaking news story that has already made it to most publications’ page six or so. I found this header on Breitbart as well:

The Washington Post, the leftist legacy media outlet whose motto is “Democracy Dies in Darkness,” admitted to publishing fake news about the public’s discontent with floundering President Joe Biden.

This scratched the surface of the Story. A few weeks back, some ridiculous reporter (Kelli Savast who reports for NBC) was interviewing Brandon Brown, who had just won a NASCAR race. In the background, it could be obviously heard the crowd chanting “Fuck Joe Biden.” She cleverly tries to dodge the crowd saying, “They are chanting ‘Let’s go Brandon’.” And since then, pretty much everyone has lampooned the idiot for reporting something COMPLETELY FALSE.

EXCEPT – the Washington Post published a story claiming a crowd at a Trump Rally was chanting the infamous “Let’s Go Brandon” chant. Only thing was that the video clip OBVIOUSLY played #FJB, AND the rally the reporter was talking about was back in August (1 month before the famous Brandon Brown race.

WAPO had to retract the article. Something they never do.

The Lamestream truly HATES this. People are Chanting Fuck Joe Biden all over the country. At Sporting events. Public events. Anywhere there is a camera. And when it’s not FJB, it’s “Let’s Go Brandon” as a way of saying the same thing and spitting in the eye of the media as well.

I was watching the Eagles football game against the Las Vegas Raider yesterday. The only memorable part of the game was near the end, the Raiders were kicking either a field goal or an extra point. The camera was positioned behind the kicker and into the uprights . And staring straight at the camera was a big sign with the happy phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” just like the picture here. Except this was not the game it was another game (notice the San Francisco Giants hats).

The phrase has become so iconic, that a rap star has created a song called “Fuck Joe Biden.” It is number one on iTunes. It was trending on Youtube, until they banned it. And not because of the swearing. But instead because there is a line it it that says that climate change is fake.

Welcome to America Pravda!

For pretty much all of the time I remember, Pravda (the official newspaper in Russia – formerly The Soviet Union) was synonymous with propaganda. Through and Through. It was the mouthpiece of whatever the Soviets wanted people to think and to know.

We welcome to America. You might argue that this level of propaganda has existed all along. And I would probably agree with you.  But it is examples like these that scream how bad it is now.

So Pay Attention!

And Now for More Flowers

Over the weekend, on the weekend “news” shows, there was a story about some EMT unit that was being phased out. The gist of the story was that they were no longer a “profitable” part of the whole emergency care equation in this community. The wink-wink gave the impression that this single example was indicative of all that is happening around the country.

I really had to dig deep to figure what the point of the story was and what they were trying to say with it. Let me break it down:

From the show –

  • EMT units were losing money
  • They only got “paid” when the brought people in to the hospital.
  • There were increasing numbers of “false alarm” calls that people would not need to come in to the Emergency room – and the people were using it as a way to get free healthcare without going to the hospital
  • They were often trying to get people to come in to the hospital when the people really didn’t need to be going – so they would get paid.
  • These EMT’s would be put out of work.
  • The people of the community would receive inferior care due to not having EMT’s

What they didn’t want to say, and like sleazy journalists on weekend shows, left out:

  • EMT’s are at the bottom of the barrel in the Emergency field
  • They work part time, hourly at best – meaning no benefits (or at least no affordable benefits)
  • They are one step above volunteers in the Emergency field.
  • No one gives them much credit.
  • The goal is to become a paramedic, which requires much more schooling. Pay is not much better – and hardly worth the cost of the education.
  • The money is with becoming a Nurse or a Doctor.
  • The role of EMT was only created because most areas could not afford to pay enough paramedics. And they needed more medically “trained” people to go out on calls. The Fire Companies did not want to take on the responsibilities of the medical part of the equation.
  • Because they are part time, they were one of the many professions taking advantage of the “unemployment” checks from the government. Incentive was to not work. Which meant less care.

Medical care economics are pretty dense and change in every community. But the pecking order is pretty clear. Much of it has to do with education level, and seniority. The hours suck.

My knowledge of this comes from a) I have a lot of friends in a local community that are part of the volunteer fire company. They talk a lot over beer. and b) I used to work for a supplier to the Emergency care industry.

This story triggered me for two reasons. First was that the show was practicing lazy, dishonest journalism in order to make a political point (whatever that point was lost on me). And second, one of the dishonest points they made was that . . . the poor members of these EMT’s families were going to go “hungry” when they lost their jobs.

For some reason, it reminded me of a speech I have heard more than a few times. Steve Jobs, while in the midst of his fight with cancer, gave a commencement speech at Stanford University. (NOTE: He was diagnosed with Cancer in 2004, he gave the speech in 2005, he died in 2011).

Steve Jobs was a complicated person. He was amazingly creative. He was amazingly successful. He had an ego the size of the Moon. He was an asshole. And he was a granola liberal from the San Francisco Bay Area of California. The speech pointed to a quote that he stole from somewhere (I think he explains it in the speech).

“Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.”

I think it struck me because his meaning for “Stay Hungry” was opposite of the Hungry from CBS news. CBS seemed to be celebrating the state of despair these EMT’s were in. And the State of despair that much of the country is in. And seeming to place the blame on outside forces (C0R0na) and unfair economics in the medical industry.

For Steve, the Stay Hungry was a mantra for staying open minded for opportunities. It is entrepreneurial in a sense. Keeping us on our toes to see things that are happening.

I think this entrepreneurial has become lost on the mainstream of this country. And worse, not lost as much as stamped out. Stamped out by political movements that do not see the value in human beings. Do not see the values that built this country. Stamped out by an educational system created to train a Marxist working class rather than an rich and robust American Spirit. One that say We are Exceptional.

The exceptional part does not jibe with the Marxist spirit. I remember BHO trying to stamp out the American Dream. He screamed “You did not build that” to an America who created all that we have become. He started his reign doing the “apology tour” across Europe apologizing for all the faults he saw in America. Is it a wonder that the country did not grow or Thrive between 2008 and 2016? No.

But anyways, if you have a few minutes, please listen to the speech. It is well worth your time. I still think its funny that the message of the speech could come from someone from the far left.

What Supplements Do You Take Today?

In my article yesterday, I mentioned that I grew up taking vitamins. Having them stuffed into my mouth from an early age, I guess, despite all that Big Pharma and the Medical establishment have done to try to discredit them, I have always been open to it. I seriously think that it was historical stories about the Europeans crossing the Atlantic and getting scurvy from lack of Vitamin C. I always thought, what morons they were. They could just take a Vitamin C tablet.

Note to my 8 year old self. You will learn soon about that.

I also would pay attention to the vitamin contents on food packages. At first it was probably imitating my parents who would obsess on the

The logic of taking supplements was always pretty clear to me. And I have generally followed a regiment of a Multi vitamin and Extra C.

Then C0V ID Happened

As far back as I can remember, there is a push in the public to be mindful around Flu season (sometime between September and April every year). You are advised to wash your hands, be careful in public and maybe get a Flu shot. And its a Maybe because they also admit that most Flu shots cover from 10-30 variants for the Flu and there is a possibility of about 120 strains of Flu that could hit during the year. So the shot offers you “protection” from about 1/4 of the potential viruses out there.

In the off chance that you contract the Flu, you can either ride it out or take Tamiflu which could help you fight it off. And with that, The Flu was killing between 50,000 and 100,000 people a year – primarily old people or medically compromised people.

And up until CV19, that was all there was too it. Now admittedly, Tamiflu did not seem to do anything for CV19, and then people started dying all over the place. So very quickly, the medical establishment decided that the only course of action was a vax ine. And any other potential mitigation techniques were to be ignored.

So as we socially distanced, masked and psychotically washed ourselves, sitting around waiting to die, The naturopaths started spreading evil information about keeping yourself healthy. Which included a healthy diet and specific antioxidant supplements: vitamins C, D and Zinc. Which shortly after lockdown became impossible to find in the stores.

They also recommended healthier diets and exercise.

Since the Medical establishment does their damnedest to ignore the usefulness of these two techniques people are pretty much on their own to figure out what works best for them.

My Plandemic Cocktail

I pretty followed pretty close to the recommendations for Vitamins for being healthy:

Vitamin C – There are hundreds of different variations of this. I was using one that had Extra D and Zinc. I do not do chewables.

Vitamin D – NO one wants to admit the the body’s #1 source of Vitamin D is self generated by exposure to the sun. D comes in little softgels.

Multi Vitamins – I use basic run of the mill multi vitamins. When you buy expensive ones from GNC or the bougie Vitamin stores, they tend to make your urine a super bright yellow color – something that always told me they must be working. But the Walmart versions rarely do.

Osteo BiFlex (The Generic version that costs half as much) – I have been suffering from arthritis pain in my knees and am looking for anything to reduce the pain.

NOTE: In addition to taking supplements, you should consider dosages. There are some substances that you do not want to take too much of. There are others (C &D being 2 of them) that the recommended Daily Allowance is far short of what your body needs for maximum efficacy. Google it. There are people who have the guts to admit it. Since I do not know for sure, I cannot be one of them. Who needs the Vitamin Police coming after me.

RESULTS: Other than allergies last this summer, I have been clear for the past year and a half. We also found some Vitamin C/Zinc throat lozenges. They tasted nasty so we didn’t use them.

Things About Supplements to Avoid

Since the Vitamin industry has been operating for the most part without FDA scrutiny, the efficacy of supplements is constantly questioned (especially by Big harma and the Medical Industry). Let’s discuss some things to avoid.

First, you want to avoid anything from questionable manufacturers. Many of the times, if made overseas, these supplements are made using the same equipment as other products which could taint the batch.

Second, avoid anything that is much cheaper than competitors. You want to only ingest the best quality supplements, and if it’s cheap in price, it’s low in quality.

Lastly avoid free trials like the plague. These are some of the biggest ongoing scams all over the internet. You will be asked for your credit card to be charged for only the shipping fee, but these scamsters will enroll you in a monthly auto rebill scheme without you even knowing it.
