Yesterday offered a few differing thoughts on the dimensions of the universe. Unfortunately, once you get to the third dimension, you are at the edge of what we know or can regularly visualize.
The concept is far from straightforward and unless, you delved deeper than Geometry or into a physics class in high school, you probably were never even introduced to it. That is, unless you sought other realms. And in this, fiction (specifically Science Fiction) has done an amazing job.
I will offer you 3 pretty good samples to delve into (or remember if you have experienced them.
- The Twilight Zone – Little Girl Lost – This was an episode I remember seeing when I was pretty young. I remember it freaked me out because . . . well . . . physics. I have a clip of it from Youtube. You will have to dig deeper in you want to find the whole thing. The story – a little girl falls into another dimension and her family has to figure out how to get her back.

2- A Wrinkle In Time – Book is better, but the movie does an admirable job. Written in 1962, this young adult novel tells the story of a family who gets pulled into a wrinkle in Time and Space. Through the use of a Tesseract (names so by the author) the characters are able to travel through space to other planets in order to save their father.
In the novel and movie A Wrinkle in Time, a tesseract is a fifth-dimensional bridge between two points in time and space. It is a shortcut between two points in space and time, and is essentially a “wrinkle” in time.
It uses a fictionalized version of Einstien’s Wormhole theory, and like all good fiction, tells a story with it.

3 – Dune – Written in 1964, also uses the wormhole idea. In the Dune universe, fold space is the dimension in which Guild heighliners travel, allowing them to go faster than the speed of light. It is achieved by folding space-time using the Holtzman Effect, allowing spacecraft to bypass conventional limitations and travel instantaneously between two points
These are three examples of how the dimensional universe has been described and shown to us. And in my opinion, better than I ever read or saw it in a science class. Mostly because these dimensions are theorized. And they haven’t quite figured out the science to make it happen.
Maybe they need to look up Dr. Emmett Brown, who I heard as been travelling around the universe in a Time Machine made out of a Deloreon.
If you have some time, check these out. I will be back with more tomorrow.
